How to Plan Your Year and Create Career Resolutions You Can Stick To
2022 looks to be another strong year in the technology consulting market. We look forward to helping you, seeing your progress, and celebrating your successes in the HiveNation Community this year.
Reflecting and Planning for the Coming Year
“Intentional living is the art of making our own choices before others’ choices make us.” -Richie Norton
Planning ahead for your year will allow you to set your intentions and priorities in all aspects of your life. First, dedicate some time to reflect on your previous year. Ask yourself questions like ‘What have I always wanted to accomplish?’ or ‘What could I begin doing today to be one step closer to my desired outcome?”. Your responses should be driven by both your passion and your curiosity. The answers to your questions will help frame your upcoming year. Use your responses to guide you in creating a plan. This plan should lay out your financial year, as well as define both your professional & personal goals.
Some examples might include:
• Personal things you would do around your company
• Learning Plan for the year
• Scheduling conferences you want to attend
Professional Goals
“The best way to predict the future is to create it.” -Abraham Lincoln
• Determine what professional areas you will focus on improving
• Identify the actions that will help you grow your career
• Set realistic timelines that allow you to achieve your goals
• Determine how you learn best and create a structured learning plan
Improving Physical, Mental, and Emotional Health
“Mental health is not a destination but a process; it’s about how you drive, not where you’re going.” Noam Shpancer, PhD
• Commit to an exercise program
• Take up reading 30 minutes per day
• Carve our 2 hours / day for your own personal time
"My life is ready, fire, aim, and it is one of adventure." - Jesse Itzler
Don't forget to set personal goals for yourself. Yes, your career is important, but you simply cannot make strides in your career without filling your own cup first. Choose a handful of non-work goals and events you may want to plan for. Commit to these items as a gift to yourself this year.
Developing Habits and Routine
“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go, they merely determine where you start.” Nido Qubein
Creating strong habits and effective routines will simplify your life and cut out many of the tough decisions we make day to day. According to Psychology Today, “the behavioral patterns we repeat most often are literally etched into our neural pathways.” Showing up for yourself and being consistent with what you set out will prove beneficial in the long run.
Make a habit of devoting time to plan for both personal and professional development. Continue to carve out time to enjoy things outside of work. Commit a few hours a week to focus on training or areas you want to improve. Working with an accountability partner can be helpful to keep you on track with your goals. This year, spend your time wisely to move in a speed and direction that will get you to where you want to be in all aspects of your life.
Example:
Adjust your weekly work routine:
• Sunday - Look at client obligations and plan ahead for the time that you need to be prepared
• Friday - End your week by reflecting and setting up for the following week
Taking the time to set yourself up for success now will give you peace of mind throughout 2022. HiveNation wishes you the best in all of your personal and professional endeavors this year.
